The
Crisis Centre continued to offer legal and counselling aid to the survivors of
gender based violence. The centre's activities however were scaled down almost
nearly closing the centre for more than three months due to lack of funds. As
a result, the centre recorded less clients (482) compared to 746 in the previous
year: However the quality work resulting from commitment and hardworking spirit
9f the Crisis Centre staff saw 176 cases taken up by the centre concluded in favour
of clients compared to only 88 in 2001. Interestingly the Centre also did a commendable
activism work, which resulted into bringing hope, peace and happiness to a woman
survivor of gender based violence from Tanzania's northern region of Arusha. The
woman whose life d been threatened by her husband as well as being denied the
right to see her children for nearly two 3.rs was granted custody and assured
security. In addition, 56 outreach programs were conducted in various villages
of Oar es Salaam and Coast regions where communities were sensitised and educated
on issues of gender based violence and the strategies to combat them.
