TAMWA project based in Zanzibar officially began in October 2002. It uses media as a driving force to bring about good governance and gender equality thus, reducing HIV infections amongst the general public.

The achievements were as follows:

• 27 journalists from both print and electronic media were trained and equipped with skills on how best to cover issues of good governance, gender and HIV/AIDS.

• An office situated at Wireless Street officially was opened on 2Oth December 2002.

• 33 articles were printed on the project of which 23 were published by the Tanzania Mainland newspapers namely Majira, Uhuru, Nipashe, The Guardian and 10 by the Zanzibar sole newspaper; Zanzibar Leo.

• 15 news items were broadcast and published, 6 news and 4 radio programmes by sauti ya Tanzania Zanzibar; 2 news and 2 programmes by TVZ and 7 news with one picture and 3 features by Zanzibar Leo.
