TAMWA
project based in Zanzibar officially began in October 2002. It uses media as a
driving force to bring about good governance and gender equality thus, reducing
HIV infections amongst the general public.
The achievements were as follows:
27 journalists from both print and electronic media were trained
and equipped with skills on how best to cover issues of good governance, gender
and HIV/AIDS.
An office situated at Wireless Street officially
was opened on 2Oth December 2002.
33 articles were printed on
the project of which 23 were published by the Tanzania Mainland newspapers namely
Majira, Uhuru, Nipashe, The Guardian and 10 by the Zanzibar sole newspaper; Zanzibar
Leo.
15 news items were broadcast and published, 6 news and 4
radio programmes by sauti ya Tanzania Zanzibar; 2 news and 2 programmes by TVZ
and 7 news with one picture and 3 features by Zanzibar Leo.
